Since Toshiba has announced discontinuation of HDDVD, good bargains can be found on eBay.
I remember to have the dilemma when I had to choose between a Bluray and HDDVD player. Finally, I’ve chosen a Sony 60GB PS3 for several reasons : Bluray format (a little bit ahead of HDDVD), SACD player (which it’s not anymore the case), Cell CPU and PS2 retro-compatibility mainly.
One key point about HDDVD was movie software seemed to be better encoded (compared to the same Bluray movie). So at the beginning my choice was for Bluray, then HDDVD, and then back to Bluray.
And you? Do you have a high-def player? Bluray? HDDVD?

Just received my last 3 loudspeaker (subwoofer excepted). My ears like Dynaudio so I’ve spend (few) bulks to my local dealer and then received 2 months later these boxes.
More photos of the new installation soon.

As you may know, I wish I would have soon a HTPC. So I’m looking for the components I will put in this system. One of the main component is the video card. On the one hand we have the future Sapphire video card Radeon X1600 Pro HDMI which is equipped with an HDMI output (see photo below).

It looks great except the active cooling system which may be noisy.
On the other hand, MSI will launch the NX7600GT-VT2D256E-HD which is an Nvidia 7600GT Fanless and HDCP:

Pros are:
- Nvidia chipset which allow you to use software like TheaterTek based on Nvidia’s PureVideo Codec
- Fanless cooling system : Noiseless
- HDCP output : at least you can use HDCP display as projectors, flat panels and other
Con are:
- DVI output, but don’t worry, you will only need an DVI to HDMI adaptor which is painless.
To be continued…
